Inpatient services are provided to patients during a hospital stay. You become an inpatient once you are admitted to the hospital with a doctor’s order. Outpatient services are provided in an outpatient setting, such as a doctor’s office, surgery center, or Emergency Department.
Patients are typically admitted to Optimum hospital for an acute illness, traumatic injury, planned surgery, or observation and tests. Most hospital admissions come from the Emergency Department or are coordinated in advance by a patient’s primary care provider.
